see what people had to say....

Hey Brian,

As promised, here are the pictures from Tues night. The first bite was high on his upper thigh. The second bite was on the knee.

A much smaller accomplishment happened tonight when we were called by the county to "do the impossible."  The deputy was on a domestic and the male subject took the females keys and threw them as far as he could out in to a corn field.  So they called for the dog to find the keys.

I didnt know what they wanted until i got there, but wasnt going to say no.  I sent Ory in to the corn to article search and about 5-10 minutes into it, I saw him pick his head up and start scenting high.  He worked the odor over about 4 rows and kept going higher and higher until he jumped up and knocked a stalk down....and layed next to the keys that were hooked to the top of that stalk.  Im sure that doesn't seem like much to the non-dog world, but I was proud as hell of him.

Anyway, you know how this world is filled with peaks and valleys.....so I am enjoying being on this lil peak right now with him.

Stay Safe,

Darin & Ory

Brian,Sue & Brendan, I am so glad to see that there is a Working Dog vendor that is dedicated and sincere in the marketing of working dogs. I have seen so many vendors that do not care for anything other than the mighty dollar that it gives K-9 a bad reputation to handlers and department administrators. But Northern Michigan K-9 is an example of just the opposite, here you get a great quality K-9, fantastic one on one instruction and when you leave, you have the knowledge and courage to work a fine working K-9 that will be successful for many years. Plain and Simple. None Better Anywhere. Keep up the great work, The friendship and knowledge that you have given myself and my family will never be forgotten, I owe my success in K-9 to you.....

Hey guys the website looks great!!..

I had the pleasure of being in the first class of graduates from Northern Michigan K-9 and I can honestly say that being a K-9 handler has been the most rewarding experience I have had during my law enforcement career.

Brian and Sue worked day and night to prepare me and my K-9 partner, Fanja, for whatever challenges the street had to offer. Their hard work paid off the first night I hit the street with Fanja as we located a felon hiding in a row of bushes that had eluded officers during a foot chase.

Thanks for everything....you guys are the greatest!

Brian and Sue, I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your "service after the sale." K-9 Viggo and I are the only K-9 team in our county at this point but I will definately point administration to you when we have new K-9 openings. Everyone is impressed with how well you matched Viggo to our department and my family. Thanks for taking my phone calls at all hours and welcoming me to continued training at any time at no extra cost! As a new handler you have shown me how to go the extra mile to make the program work.

You have also helped me gain a number of contacts around the area to continue training. I have heard nothing but positive remarks about you and your quality K-9's from handler's in the entire area. I would recommend you to any one looking for a K-9. I

Thanks again, dave and Viggo

Hello, very nice site. To anyone that is interested in a hands on, down to earth, quality k-9 school, this is it! Brian is a fine instructor and person. His knowledge of dogs and people make this course very worth your time. On my first night of patrol with my new k-9, we were able to locate narcotics. Hi Brian and Sue, It's now three days after the attack on the World Trade Center and I wanted to pass on to you our appreciation for the job you did with our dogs and handlers. In the past few days we have been called on to search the Senate Office Building and other buildings in the State Capitol complex. Our K-9 teams have searched Capitol City Airport and all the planes on the tarmac twice now, as well as a number of schools in the surrounding communities. The dogs have been great! Their drive and focus is amazing. Even the handlers have been surprised at the amount of work they have done and the drive that they continue to exhibit. Things are slowing down now, and I wanted to share some of this with you. We have four very tired explosive dog teams, but also some very proud handlers. I think that you should share in this moment with them. With all the tragedy that surrounds this event there are some things that will be remembered in a good light. The work of some very well trained dogs is one of those. From the entire MSU K-9 Unit I want to pass on our thanks.

Brian,Susan, and Brendan-Great site!. Again, thanks for your instruction. The class was fun. There is so much for the public, departments, fellow officer's to learn about police working dogs. After this course, the handler has the general knowledge of how to properly apply all aspects to the street. The one-on-one teaching is outstanding. Problems are fixed then...not later. Again, Ben and I thank you..Take Care and Be Safe!

Brian, Don't know how to express how happy I am with my new partner Rocco. We have worked 5 shifts since my graduation with him and he is doing awesome. We have found drugs on every shift and on our third night out we had two inmates escape from our jail, one was apprenended by jail personnel after a short chase, and Rocco successfully tracked the second subject down and we were able to apprehend him!! (Sorry bout the phone call in the middle of the night on that one!) I do not think our success is a fluke but rather a testimony to your fine establishment and to you personally. We are looking forward to a continued relationship with NMK9 and continued success. P.S. How big do you want the tattoo??!!

Brian, I wanted to take a minute to thank you and NMK9 for providing me with an EXCELLENT K9 and training. I have been to numerous training courses during my career but have never experienced the close knit comraderie or instruction that you provided. Within the first few days back on patrol K9 Futar located 1.5 lbs of Marijuana hidden inside a vehicle's trunk. You can imagine my delight showing how sucessful a new K9 program can be. TO BRIAN AND SUE: THANK YOU. CUBA IS AN INCREDIBLE DOG. I LOOK AT HIM AND SEE THOSE WHEELS TURNING IN HIS HEAD AND CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT HE'LL DO NEXT. I KNOW WE HAVE DISCUSSED THINGS PERSONALLY BUT THIS IS SO EVERYONE INTERESTED CAN KNOW WHAT I THINK. YOUR DOGS ARE TOP NOTCH. YOUR TRAINING STYLE IS ONE WHICH I HAVE FOUND TO BE THE MOST BENEFICIAL TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. WE ARE ALL COCKY AND THICK-HEADED BUT THINGS COME EASILY WHEN THEY ARE ALLOWED TO FLOW AND ADJUST. EVEN THOUGH YOU DEALT WITH A HORRIBLE PERSONAL TRAGEDY IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS, WE WERE ABLE TO STAY ON COURSE AND FINISH ON TIME. WE DID NOT JUST SLIP BY, BUT WE WERE READY FOR THE STREET. GRANTED WE WERE NOT SEASONED SALTY VETERANS, BUT THEN AGAIN WHO IS AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF BASIC TRAINING. (FOR ALL YOU OUT THERE WONDERING HOW)...OUR CLASS FORMED A BOND TOGETHER AND WITH BRIAN AND HIS FAMILY THAT I CAN ONLY CLASSIFY AS NON-TYPICAL. THROUGH WHAT WE HAD ALREADY LEARNED IN CLASS AND THE FACT THAT WE DID NOT HAVE TO TRAIN THE DOGS AS WE LEARNED, BUT SIMPLY LEARNED WHAT THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN TRAINED TO DO AND TO READ THEM APPROPRIATELY; THE LIKELY PITFALLS WERE AVOIDED. HAVING THE DOGS SO READILY TRAINED AND PREPARED MADE THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE MUCH LESS FRUSTRATING THAN I ANTICIPATED. TRACKING, NARCOTICS DETECTION, PATROL AND APPREHENSION; ALL WERE SECOND NATURE TO OUR DOGS THE DAY WE GOT THEM OUT OF THE KENNEL. OK, SO WE INTRODUCED ARTICLE SEARCHES TO OUR DOGS. BECAUSE THE DOGS WERE SO WELL VERSED IN OTHER TRAINING ASPECTS, THEY PICKED IT UP IMMEDIATELY. ALL FOUR DUAL PURPOSE DOGS. HOW ABOUT THIS: SADIE, A SINGLE PURPOSE NARCOTICS K9 PICKED UP TRACKING AND ARTICLE SEARCHES LIKE SHE HAD BEEN DOING THEM FOR MONTHS. THE DOGS AT NORTHERN MICHIGAN K9 ARE TRULY TOP SHELF. WORKING IN THE ARMPIT OF NORTHWEST INDIANA, I KNEW I NEEDED A DOG WITH SPECIAL TALENTS AND A BIG HEART. CUBA CERTAINLY HAS BOTH. WHEN I JUMP OUT ON SOME LESS THAN HONORABLE LOOKING CHARACTER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND CUBA (A 55 POUND MAL) SOUNDS LIKE A 120 POUND MONSTER ROCKING MY CAR AND SCARING EVERYONE WITHIN A HUNDRED YARDS THOUGH THE CAGE, I JUST SMILE INSIDE AND THINK NMK9 BABY, YOUR DEALING WITH THE BEST. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU. HE CAN BE VERY PROUD OF YOU! TO CHRIS - I OWE YOU A DEBT OF GRATITUDE FOR YOUR BEING ABLE TO SEE THROUGH MY ODD PERSONALITY AND KEEP ME ON TRACK WHEN I NEEDED IT. TO MY CLASSMATES: -JIM AND K9 PARTNER YURI (JOHNNY): THE SPRINGS WITH FUR -BART AND K9 PARTNER GREGOR: THE GIANT AND THE BEAST -DARREN AND K9 PARTNER ORY: MY LEGS ARE STILL BRUISED FROM THAT LANDSHARK -DENISE AND K9 SADIE: THE GENTLE LITTLE MISS WITH COYOTE EYES MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND KEEP YOU SAFE. IT IS MY HONOR TO BE ABLE TO SAY I KNOW YOU AND CALL YOU MY FRIENDS.

Brian and Sue,

Thank you so much for my new partner Bram. You truly have a gift of matching up the right dog for the handler. Your training style and ability to work with people are second to none. Any time that we had a question, you had the answer. You are truly a class act and I'm very grateful to have been able to train with you. To anyone looking for a police K-9, look no further. You will leave NMK9 confident and have a dog able to give you results right away. I graduated on 5-27-05 and on my first night back to work my dog Bram tracked two stolen vehicle suspects through parking lots, yards, and over numerous fences and found both suspects hiding in some brush nearly 200 yards away.

Thanks again Brian and Sue for everything that you've done for me!!!!!

Subject: rico's big 2nd day

I was awakened at 11:45 A.M. on tuesday to assist Oshkosh police department on the perimeter of a double homicide swat call.  The call lasted till 8:00 P.M. and Rico did well waiting for the call to get over.  When I got back to Fond du Lac to finish my shift Rico had his first drug arrest hitting on the outside of a vehicle on 4 grams of marijuana in the center console of the vehicle.

Hey Brian,

I just wanted to share with you what I consider to be a successful track.  A summary is as follows:

8am a 10 year old boy leaves home and doesnt tell anyone where he is going other than his brother said the kid was going fishing. Mom finally decides to report him missing at 6pm.  I get called out and arrive on scene.  I get a description and last known direction of travel....10 hours ago!!!  Mom then tells me that his fishing stuff was down at a creek down the road.  I then went there and started Ory at the fishing stuff.  He immediately nose downs and starts tuggin....UP STREAM!  We went approximately 1/2 mile up stream and there was water the whole way.  There were pools where it was waist deep on me.  Needless to say, one of the joys of dog handling...I got soaked.  He kept showing sings of being on good odor the whole way.  I kept thinking..."ther is NO way he is on odor."  and then
the "Brian Voice" in my head kept saying..."TRUST YOUR DOG DUMMY!"  We continued tracking till we got to a
low water bridge where he got out of the water and showed all kinds of interest on the bridge.  I then went and asked one of the guys I seen nearby about the kid.  He tells me..."Yeah, that kid was here fishing on that bridge about an hour ago, He left going that way."  I then put Ory back on the trail in the direction the boy was last seen walking.  We tracked about another 100 yards or so before dispatch advised me that he kid returned home.  I know WE didnt actually find the boy....but Im satisfied that we would have tracked him back home.  I considered it a successful track and just wanted to share it with you.  I hope all is well and please drill in them handlers heads that you have there now....TRUST YOUR DOG!!!

Stay Safe

Brian,

I want to thank NMK9 for the many years of support in quality training, venues, dogs.  You've done a lot to help us out when we've needed it and I really appreciate it.  My partner and I have been very successful over our 7yrs of service so far and I attribute a lot of it to the help from your quality organization.

Hi Guys

Thanks for talking with me last night, It means alot to me to still have you as friends.
Here are a couple of pictures of me and Lando. If you could put one on the memorial page it would mean alot. I know time heals and it will take a while. But please know I loved him from the moment I saw him at your house. Please know that because of you and the time you put in with him, Lando was a HERO. Lando was a very special dog, as Brian said he was my career. He always gave 110% at work and then was just happy to be home when we were off.
Lando could go from Felony Stops to Babysitting by the swing set in less then 20 minutes.

Thanks Guys
Forever Grateful
Your Friend
Chris
